Iran to talk with EU before IAEA meeting - 02 march 2006 - 14:38
NUCLEAR IRAN EUROPE - Iran to talk with EU before IAEA meeting. The Iranian diplomatist on nuclear technology Ali Larijani declared on Thursday in Moscow that Iran would meet the European "troika" (EU-3) formed by Germany, France and Great Britain, which represents the EU, before the conference of March 6th of the International agency of nuclear energy (AIEA) on Iranian nuclear program. A spokesman of the Foreign British Service confirmed meeting between ministers of Foreign Affairs of Germany, France and Great Britain and Iranian diplomatists on Friday in Vienne in Austria later. Iran agrees for resumption of negotiations with the EU on nuclear problem. « A meeting at ministerial level is envisaged on Friday between the troika and the Iranian diplomatist Ali Larijani », declared the spokesman of the Foreign British Service. « Iran solicited this meeting; we are going to listen to what Iran has to say, but we do not have new proposal », he underlined. Ali Larijani ended on Wednesday the third turn of negotiations with Russia on the Iranian program of enrichment of uranium, in priori without true true market. Iran and Russia follow their negotiations on « agreement in principle » on the joint setting up of a company, based in Russia, which would be made responsible for providing some uranium enriched in the Iranian nuclear installations.
The spokesman of the ministry of Foreign Affairs of France confirmed resumption of negotiations between Europe and Iran on Iranian nuclear technology next Friday in come. During the point press daily of this day, the spokesman answered the questions of the journalists. Can you confirm the keeping of a meeting of the troika on Friday in Vienne with the Iranian diplomatists? And who will participate in discussions? « I confirm you in effect that a meeting of ministerial format should be held in Vienne, tomorrow, on Friday, at the request of Iranian authorities. » What do you expect from this meeting of Vienne? What progress was determined in ongoing meetings in Moscow? « As for your first question, we wish that Iran answers requests of AIEA such as they were expressed, particularly during the meeting of the five permanent members of the Security Council (China, Russia, the United States of America, United Kingdom and France), and of Germany which was held in London on January 31st, then by the resolution of the Council of the governors of the AIEA of February 4th. As for your second question, evaluations carried by Russian authorities do not seem to mention real progress, but I invite you to question them. » During the point be pressing of March 01st, 2006, the spokesman of the ministry of Foreign Affairs of France had also expressed himself about the Iranian file and notably about International Crisis Group (ICG) which calls to accept that Iran can enrich uranium on its territory, but not immediately and in a limited and supervised way. ICG thinks that it is the only means, for lack of efficient sanctions, to avoid striking which would destabilize more still the region. In this question the spokesman of the ministry of Foreign Affairs added that it was not up to him « to comment on the report of an independent non-governmental research institute. Requests of the international community are well known: it is up in Iran to make all necessary decisions to come back to the suspension of activities there linked to enrichment and to reprocessing of uranium and to collaborate entirely with AIEA. These requests were very apparently expressed on February 4th of this year, during the adoption of resolution by the advice of the governors of the AIEA, and confirmed by the last report of his Managing director, Mr El Baradeï, which underlines, moreover, that the Agency is not still capable of concluding in the absence of underground activities in Iran. » Great Britain, Germany and France represent the European Union for negotiations with Iran on Iranian nuclear program. These countries will meet Iran therefore next Friday in Vienne, but without knowing really what Iran has to offer. AIEA will hold its meeting next Monday to discuss delivery or not of a report concerning Iranian nuclear program in the Security Council of United Nations.
